Delegates from Somalia, The neighboring countries and
oversees have gathered in Mogadishu to pave the way for the upcoming Nairobi reconstruction
and investment conference and exhibition (SORIC), which will be held in
Nairobi, Kenya on 28-29 May 2013 at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre.
SORIC, Chairman, Hasan Nuur has told the participants that the aim and the
concept of this meeting was to unite Chambers of commerce for both Somalia and Kenya.
He urged Somalis to utilize the rich natural resources of their country for the
benefit of the population.
Mr. Nur affirmed that the next conference after Nairobi will be held in
Mogadishu pointing out that the aim of these conferences is to develop Somalia
and has nothing to do with politics.
Chairman of Kenya’s National Chamber of Commerce Mr. James addressed the
participants stating that Somalia is now appropriate place for investment and called
to create a free market for the traders of East African countries with-out any
trade difficulties.
Officials of the Somali National Chamber of Commerce have also acknowledged the
importance of investing Somalia and affirmed their participation in the
upcoming Nairobi reconstruction and investment conference and exhibition (SORIC)
.
Chairman of the Centre for research and development (CRD) Jibril Ibrahim
Abdulle who addressed the conference pointed out the importance of investing
Somalia by international companies saying many corporate companies are willing
to invest the country but do not have the methods to start it.
He urged the government to put in place investment institutions and procedures
and parliament to adopt investment laws to attract foreign investors.
Police commissioner of Somalia General Abdihakim Dahir Saeed who attended
the meeting pledged to improve the security of the country affirming the
government’s commitment to protect investors.
"This is an important meeting for Somalia, investing Somalia will be a
boost to the security of our country” Said the police commissioner.
Finally, all the participants were invited to attend, the first Somali
Reconstruction and Investment Conference and Exhibition (SORIC), which will be
held in Nairobi, Kenya on 28-29 May 2013 at the Kenyatta International
Conference Centre.
