Politicians from Somalia's Middle Shabelle
region arrived in Jowhar on Wednesday (March 27th) to assess the
security and humanitarian conditions in the regional capital, UN-funded
Radio Bar-Kulan reported.
Hundreds of Jowhar residents came out to greet the politicians, some
of them waving flags and pictures of Somali leaders to show their
support for the federal government. Security was increased in Jowhar in
preparation for the delegation's arrival.
Parliamentary committee on foreign affairs chairman Abdikadir Osoble
led the 12-member delegation, which will meet with local leaders and the
regional administration. This is the first high-level delegation to
visit the city since Somali and African Union Mission in Somalia forces
liberated it from al-Shabaab in December.
