In his first reaction to last night’s United Nations security council meeting to ease the 20 year old arms embargo, Hassan Shiekh Mohamud hailed this as a step forward.

“We have thousands of troops that was trained by our friends, one of the challenges we are facing is that we have no military equipments for them” said Mr. Hassan.

“Somali government welcomes this decision and we are greatful to the member countries of the security council by understanding our situation” said the president.

He urged all Somalis to take part in the rebuilding process of the country.

“This was another step towards success, all Somalis must now concentrate on rebuilding Somalia” he added.

The UN Security Council on Wednesday eased the arms embargo against Somalia for one year, which has created an outcry from Human rights activists and semiautonomous regions of Puntland and Somaliland.

The embargo was imposed in 1992, a year after the fall of former president Mohamed Siad Barre, who was ousted by armed rebels.
