Somalia being at the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the African Union (AU), during the 21st AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is the sign of, the level of successes that the Pan-African organization has achieved in the last 50 years, said Somali President Hassan Sheik Mohamud.
Speaking to the press on Sunday at the AU Headquarters, the president revealed that he was attending the AU summit for the second time as a permanent president of Somalia.
Stating that Somalia was not active in the international arena in the past 22 years, the president noted that his country is coming back to its position in the community of African continent and the world at large with the help of the AU.
“Somalia was a symbol for the African unity, the concept of African programs for African solutions is highly applicable to Somalia; after 22 years Somalia is coming back to its position in the community of nations of African continent and the world at large with the help of the AU,” he said.
“AU forces are inside Somalia doing a peacemaking exercise, supporting the Somali government and the Somali national army to defeat the scourge of Al-Shabaab, the extremist element. So, Somalia being here today in the 50th anniversary of the AU is the sign of the level of successes that this organization has reached in the last 50 years. So we are here today as a model for the success of AU,” stated the President.
