OIC Secretary General condemns attack against Turkish targets in Mogadishu

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has strongly condemned the suicide attack against the Turkish Embassy and residence housing Turkish diplomats in Mogadishu which claimed lives and caused injuries.

Prof. Ihsanoglu who described the attack as a dastardly and cowardly act coming particularly during the holy month of Ramadan when Muslims are in a state of devotion, conveyed his sincere condolences to the Turkish government and the families of the victims.

He further appealed to the Republic of Turkey who has playing an active role in the reconstruction and recovery of Somalia not to be discouraged by this tragic event but to sustain its commendable engagement in the interest of the long suffering Somali people.

The Secretary General then reiterated the principled position of the OIC against terrorism and reaffirmed its solidarity with Somali government to combat violent extremism. He also restated his request to other Member States to emulate Turkey in its brave determination to contribute to the development and peace building in Somalia.
