GARISSA, KENYA: Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim has said the leadership of the country should not be entrusted to the Jubilee coalition.

Maalim, who was addressing Garissa County youths while campaigning for the senator seat, said the country will face insurmountable problems if Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta becomes the president and William Ruto his deputy.

“In the unlikely event that the Jubilee Alliance wins the coming elections, Kenya will be a pariah nation. There will be international sanctions that will lock out the country,” he said.

The Lagdera MP wondered why the two were still determined to take power when they were still yet to clear their names at the ICC.

“These people (Uhuru and Ruto) don’t have the interes of the country at heart because if they had they would have shelved their ambitions at least for now until they clear their names at the ICC, but because their only interest is to protect their wealth and those of their colleagues, they will do everything to get power,” said Maalim.

He said the alliance could not be trusted with implementing the new Constitution since most of the coalition members were against it.

“If you vote in the Jubilee coalition, we should as well forget about its existence,” he said while urging the youth to vote for Prime Minister Raila Odinga and the Cord coalition.
