A Danish court on Monday formally charged two brothers with links to Somalia's Islamist Shebab rebels on suspicion of plotting a terror attack.

Prosecutors have accused the men, of Somali origin and aged 19 and 24, of "organising and financing" several months of training for the older brother at a Shebab-run camp in the capital Mogadishu ending in March 2012.

They were arrested in May last year on suspicion of preparing an act of terror and have been detained since. One of them was picked up at his home in the central Danish city of Aarhus and the other as he arrived by plane at Copenhagen airport.

The trial is expected to start on March 11.

After an offensive launched in mid-2011 by an African Union force, the Al-Qaeda-linked Shebab lost their main strongholds in Somalia's south and centre. They still control some rural areas, however.
