Mogadishu, 28 December 2013 (HOL) - The new Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia Abdi Weli Sheik Ahmed revealed that his government is taking as a matter of priority the rebuilding of Somalia’s   educational institutions to help the full recovery of the country’s national educational system.

Although private schools and universities were functioning, to certain extent, the state educational institutions were completely destroyed by the civil war since 1991.

Speaking at the ceremony to re-open Moallim Jama School; one of the oldest schools in Mogadishu on Saturday, the Prime Minister said that the reconstruction of the school has been implemented by the Civil Service Development Ministry, as  part of its plan to rebuild the educational institutions destroyed during the civil war in the country.

“As government, we are committed to give maximum priority the basic services as well as human resources development. We are going to develop the capacity of the Teachers throughout the country” said the Prime Minister.

The PM also visited Mogadishu’s Sea port where he toured the various   departments. He was given full briefing on the day-to-day task by the Management and the members of the Staff.

“This is a very important income generating service for the government and it is the determination of the new government to strengthen the national economy in order to minimise the dependence on foreign aid”, added the Prime Minister.

The new Prime Minister, Abdiweli Shaikh Ahmed also visited the IDP “Rajo” Camp, which hosts the biggest number of Internally Displaced People. The visit was aimed at learning about the living standard of about 2,400 families. The Camp was set up in 2011 during the famine in the country and it is run by Turkish government.

Abdiweli expressed the gratitude of the Somali Government and that of the people to the Government and People of Turkey for the timely assistance extended to the vulnerable Somalis and for the help to Somali government in the reconstruction of the territory.

Finally, the Prime Minister, went to see the famous Somali singer, Abdi Tahlil Warsame, who has been sick for several years. He wished him well and prayed for his quick recovery.
