Somali
lawmaker Asha Haji Elmi received an award from President Joyce Banda of
Malawi for her activism on behalf of Somali women, Malawi's Nyasa Times
reported Wednesday (December 18th).
Elmi was one of four African women
honoured at Monday's ceremony whose theme was, "Celebrating African
Women". Folorunsho Alakija of Nigeria, Litha Musyimi-Ogana of Kenya and
Malawi's Chief Justice Anastanzia Msosa also received awards.
"These women have contributed and continue to contribute to the achievements of the African Union Protocol on Human Rights," Banda said at the ceremony.
