PRESS RELEASE
The Jubbaland Development Institute, org (JDI) has held its first annual conference intended to establish a non-for-profit humanitarian organization which is meant to address the enormous needs that exist in Somalia particularly the Jubbaland State of Somalia.
For the last twenty three years, Somali people particularly women and children have suffered unimaginable brutality in the hands of merciless marauding thugs controlled by warlords that has no interest of the safety & the wellbeing of the defenseless people in Somalia.
After witnessing these deplorable atrocities perpetrated against Somali people, a group of concerned intellectuals, diplomats, community organizers, community leaders, and religious leaders after extensive deliberations have come to the conclusion of the urgent need to organize a non-political, inclusive organization tasked to assist the government and people of Jubbaland in the areas of reconciliation, education, women’s empowerment, reconstructions and overall capacity building initiatives.
The JDI, after the three days conference in Columbus, Ohio from Nov 28– 30th, decided to implement the following steps:
- Reconciliation
- Education
- Women empowerment
- Reconstructions
- Advocacy
- Disarmament
- Reintegration
- And overall capacity building initiatives.
JDI is fully aware of the complexities and barriers that it will confront to achieve these daunting goals, without the concerted efforts and cooperation of Somali people and the international partners.
It’s the earnest hope of JDI, that the Somali Diaspora will unequivocally support the alleviation of the endless misery that the people of Somalia have endured for so long.
Best Regards,
Former Somali Ambassador to the USA,
Abdikariin Ow- Ali
Chairman, JDI
