Somali
President
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud called for an end to clashes in the Taleh
district of Sool region, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported Sunday
(December 1st).
The conflict broke out Thursday when Puntland Vice President Abdisamad Ali Shire's convoy
was attacked by a militia loyal to the separatist Khatumo group. Eight
people were killed in the incident, Somalia's Garowe Online reported.
The Puntland administration condemned the actions and said that all
groups interested in securing representation should join the political
process.
"Violence cannot and will not resolve political issues,"
said UN Special Representative to Somalia Nicholas Kay. "All those with
a stake in the area must show calm and pursue reconciliation."
