Inspector General of police David Kimaiyo has said that a massive operation was in the offing in a bid to weed out criminal elements in Garissa.

Kimaiyo said that the government would not sit back and watch as criminals backed by the al shabaab militants take control of the town.

The move comes just 2 days after hooded gunmen stormed Kwa Chege hotel in the town and opened fire at close range, killing six on the spot and injuring others.

The killings have however swung Uhuru’s administration into action and directed top security chiefs to head to Garissa for a fact finding mission.

On Saturday the national advisory council led by Internal Security PS Mutea Iringo, Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo visited the North Eastern town to try and address the security disconnect in the region.

While addressing residents in Garissa town the security chiefs put on notice government officials colluding with criminals saying the government will not sit and watch criminals take control of the town.

Security PS Mutea Iringo conveyed a message of condolences from President Uhuru Kenyatta adding that the government would meet the burial cost of the nine people killed in Thursday night attack as well as offset their hospital bills for the four still admitted in Garissa and Nairobi.
