Kenya's top security chiefs are in Garissa on a fact finding mission following the killing of nine people on Thursday night.

Internal Security PS Mutea Iringo, Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo and CID boss Ndegwa Muhoro visited the North Eastern town on Saturday following a directive by President Uhuru.

The president on Friday expressed concern over the killings and ordered top security officers to visit the town to get to the bottom of the matter.

Uhuru sent a message of condelence to the families of those killed and said the government will meet the burial costs and waive hospital bill for the admitted.

On Thursday, unknown number of hooded gunmen stormed Kwa Chege hotel off Jamia Mosque road in the town and opened fire at close range, killing six on the spot and injuring others.

The President also raised concerned about the killings targeting security officers and civilians.

“This must stop once and for all,” the President said. “Local leaders must support security agencies in the operation to weed the criminals,” he added.

Kimaiyo, Muhoro and Iringo give a report on Monday.

Garissa has suffered sporadic attacks since Kenyan troops crossed into Somalia to hunt down Al shabaab militants.
