Coast Commissioner Samuel Kilele has accused al-Shabaab and the
Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) of collusion, giving the two groups a
one-week ultimatum to surrender or face consequences, Kenya's The Star
reported Saturday (March 30th).
Kilele said both groups have similar interests in causing
disturbances in the region. "If they do not surrender, then we will go
to the forests and the caves to flush them out," he said. "We know where
they are and we know what they are planning."
He said 26 police officers have been killed between September and
March. Most recently, two officers were killed in a suspected MRC raid
on a police station in Malindi on Thursday, he said.
Kilele said some of the attackers may have travelled to Somalia for military training.
