Somalia's National Constituent Assembly (NCA) reconvened on Saturday (July 28th) after Friday's meeting was delayed, Somalia's Garowe Online reported.
The former police academy building housing the NCA was temporarily closed on Friday, after several mortar shells exploded nearby. No one was injured in the blasts.
"Completing the constitutional vote is the current obstacle we are trying to overcome, and this is an important process that cannot be delayed," Somalia's Minister of Constitution and Reconciliation Abdirahman Hosh Jibril said on Saturday. He said Friday's meeting was delayed one day for technical reasons.
The NCA, charged with approving the draft constitution of Somalia, opened in Mogadishu on Wednesday after several delays. Security has been increased in the capital to prevent attacks from al-Shabaab, which has threatened to target NCA members.
