Family grieves loss of son

When two men were shot dead in northwest Toronto last month, police were faced with solving two more homicides in which the victims had Somali roots.

The two victims, Warsame Ali and Suleiman Ali, were the fifth and sixth men of Somali descent to be shot dead in Toronto since the start of June.

The parents of Warsame Ali say they brought their family to Canada from Somalia more than 20 years ago.

The victim’s father, Mohamed Hussein, says it is hard to come to grips with what happened to his son in Canada.

"I came and escaped Somalia from the bullets. Imagine seeing your child taken away by the same bullets that you ran away from," Hussein told CBC News in a recent interview.
