Police in Mwingi have arrested illegal immigrants from Somalia en-route to Nairobi. They were travelling from Garissa Mwingi police boss Simon Birir yesterday said the suspects had fake Kenyan ID cards.
“We have arrested the four. They are being held at the Mwingi police station for interrogation. We want to know their motive for entering the country with fake papers. All we know is that they are not Kenyans because they can neither speak Kiswahili nor English,” he said.
Birir said investigations have been broadened to smash the syndicate that has been issuing Somali nationals with fake ID cards.
The four suspects will be arraigned in court today. “We will prefer a litany of charges against the suspects including being in the country illegally, holding fake identification documents and collusion to acquire false identification documents among others,” Birir said.
