Former Prime Minister of Somalia Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has issued an international appeal for aid for the victims of flooding in Beledweyne, Somalia's Radio Risaala reported Thursday (October 4th).

Ali called on international donors to assist people who lost their homes in flooding, which killed at least 52 people. African Union Mission in Somalia forces evacuated many Beledweyne residents to higher ground in response to the floods, and many are currently living in tented camps.
The Somali government is creating a commission to provide aid to the residents of Beledweyne and to report on the current disaster relief environment, he said.
Ali's remarks follow President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's visit to Beledweyne on Tuesday to monitor the situation of the city's residents and flood victims.
