70 paperless Somalis arrived at Moss Rygge Airport in eastern Norway after travelling on flights from Italy during the summer, reports say.

All the individuals arrived on Irish airline Ryanair’s route from Palermo on Sicily. Police report airport sanitary workers have told them they apparently found passport bits after emptying waste from the planes.

“They do not possess documents when they come to us at Moss Airport Rygge. We know that some of the papers are torn into pieces and thrown into the airplane lavatory,” police inspector Anders Lia told NRK.

It is thought that the Somali asylum seekers from the war-torn country had arrived via Italy with the help of others who made new travel documents, officer Lia explained.

Director of the Somali society in Halden, Mohammed Abdil Dahir, said living conditions are extremely bad for asylum seekers in Italy

“There are some who say to me that it is better to be in a war than in Italy and ending up on the streets.”
