Somalia to Elect New President, Affirms African Representative

The Somali parliament will elect next August 20 the President of this country with persistent political instability in recent years, regional sources reported on Tuesday.
The Special Representative of the African Union Commission on Somalia, Boubacar Gaoussou Diarra stated that this step is part of the schedule of political transformations under way in this State, released Panapress Agency.
He also confirmed that a Constituent Assembly composed of 825 members will meet soon to approve a new constitution and elect 225 deputies.
The official insisted that the 225 parliamentarians who will come out from the Constituent Assembly shall appoint the President and the Vice-Presidents of Parliament.
Gaoussou Diarra, also head of the African Union Mission in Somalia expressed the willingness of the regional body to help with everything necessary to the peaceful process of political transition in this territory.
In Somalia, with a current Transitional Federal Government, there is a consolidated security situation that allows to carry out a process for forming a new state, political actors agreed.
Somalia, divided country where warlords, clans and armed groups of Islamic persuasion, lacks a strong central effective government since the 1991 fall of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre.
