It's almost ten days since District Officer Edward Mule and Fredrick Irungu, a clerk with the register of persons, were abducted in Wajir County by suspected Al-shabaab militia and their whereabouts to date remain unknown.Since then, their families have been living in agony, with a brief reprieve after the insurgents posted pictures of the two abductees on its twitter page.
The Kenya Defence forces is in contact with the two abducted Kenyans and is trying every possible way to rescue them unharmed.
They were abducted during an attack on a police post in Wajir where 7 people died.
In its weekly media briefing, the Kenya Defence Forces, said the two were safe and have made contacts with them but never gave details of the nature of contract and if the abductors have made any demands for their release.
Military spokesman Col Cyrus Oguna at the sametime, termed as cheap propaganda, allegations that the KDF were indiscriminately killing civilians in Somalia
Oguna said the Al-shabaaba militants have turned into using unorthodox methods to harm civilian and then pass the blame to the KDF forces.
He said the militia were mounting their flag on civilian houses to misdirect the KDF while other were using explosives fitted into women bras.
Oguna also expressed confidence in the operation which is dubbed "Linda Nchi" saying it has registered tremendous success and their ultimate goal is to capture Kismayu town which is the economic backbone of Al Shabaab militia group.
He said:" The weakened Al-Shabaab militia group have exhausted their meagre resources and have resorted to robbing locals their livestock to feed their fighters and forcefully recruiting young people to bolster the militia group."
Mr. Oguna further said the demoralized Al-Shabaab have resorted to stealing of the available vehicles in Southern Somalia for their operations and asked the Somali people to co-operate with KDF and TFG forces so that they can be rooted out as faster as possible.
The military spokesman announced that KDF has lost seven soldiers to enemy fire since the inception of the military operation,while five others were killed in fatal plane crash at Liboi. He added that 22 soldiers have been injured and one of them was lost in the Indian Ocean waters.
