Twenty-nine children have died of hunger in a Somali refugee camp, Press TV reports.

The children died in the Saylici refugee camp in Mogadishu’s Karaan District on Monday.

Shortly after arriving in Mogadishu on Monday, Mark Bowden, the UN humanitarian coordinator for Somalia, stated that over 250,000 families need shelter, food, medicine, and other humanitarian assistance in the capital.

On February 3, the UN declared that the famine in Somalia was over, but its officials warned that over two million Somalis are still in dire need of assistance and that conditions could get worse by May.

Somalia has not had a functioning government since 1991, when warlords overthrew former dictator Mohamed Siad Barre.
