The attacks killed 35 al-Shabab fighters and destroyed stockpiles of heavy weapons in the city of Kismayu on Monday, the Press TV correspondent in Mogadishu reported.

Missiles hit a large al-Shabab base in Kismayu named Luglow and destroyed at least 300 tons of heavy weapons.

During the attack, dozens were seriously injured and many received severe burns, a Somali military officer said.

Kismayu, which is located 528 kilometers south of Mogadishu, is the largest Somali port controlled by al-Shabab.

Over the past few weeks, numerous US remote-controlled drones have crashed in Somalia.

Somalia is the sixth country where the US military has used remote-controlled aircraft to conduct deadly strikes.

The United States has also deployed drones for aerial attacks in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Iraq, and Yemen.
