The Somali Prime Minister, Mr. Abdiwali Ali, spoke about the conflict raging in the town of Galkayo and urged the warring parties to come to a ceasefire.

The war that entered the third day has impacted the northern parts of the town with a death toll climbing 30 and reports of casualties to be in the hundred.

Mr. Ali, who hails from Puntland, stressed the need to deescalate the tension between forces loyal to Puntland State and local clan militias as he sent condolence to the families affected by the hostilities.

“My administration is going to engage with the locals and to bring the situation to an end, as we will dispatch medical support to the region” said Prime Minister Ali.

He added that the traditional elders and the youth should join forces to address the issue and collaborate rebuilding the peace among the communities.

With a delegation tasked to mediate the parties, PM Ali expects the dispute to be diffused as this crisis is the first challenge encountered by his nascent administration.
