Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed rejected the extension of  time  by Somali Parliament calling it unconsulted and unconstitutional. He rather admitted that his government’s mandate will be over in august this year.

The Somali prime minister told the United Nations Security Council that his government  defeated  Islamists in many parts of the country.

“ We believe that the UN has the mandate to protect the International Law, the Somali people and the International community cannot accept the extension of time by Parliament, which is unconstitutional”. The Premier was quoted as saying.

“ I appointed a ministerial committee to end the political deadlock and we asked to meet with the legislators, we still hope that the Executive and the legislators will come together “. He added.

Mohamed asked the UN to give his government more time to get a domestic solution for the Somali crisis.

The Prime minister also commended the role of the Somali Diaspora in nation-building saying that many of them came home and started investing the country since he took office.

His speech came after The council expressed concern at the tension between the executive and legislative branches of the Transitional Federal Government.

The council urged the holding of elections for the positions of president and speaker of parliament before the transition period ends in August.
