Prime Minister of Somalia back in WNY

Western New York is probably the last place you'd expect to find the Prime Minister of Somalia, but Mohamed Mohamed is from Grand Island, and he's back home visiting after taking on an incredible responsibility.

You could say Mohamed Mohamed is on his first campaign, even though the GI resident has already been named the Prime Minister of Somalia.

Born in the African country, he emigrated to the U.S. and worked for the Somali embassy in the '80s. But more recently worked for Erie County and the State Transportation Department, now the UB grad is working to repair his homeland, which has been a battle zone for two decades.

News 4 caught up with him back in January, the last time he was back in WNY. Now he's talking about his very difficult new role.

Mohamed said, "My government is fighting to front a war, to front a war, one is piracy and the other one is terrorists."

Back to that campaign, he spent the week at the United Nations Security Council urging the international community to help fund the peacekeeping force that's been fighting Islamic rebels.

Mohamed is taking to the airwaves, he'll be on CNN Sunday and will continue to drum up international support. He plans to meet with Congressional delegates over the next few weeks.
