More than two dozen refugees are expected to participate in a United States citizenship ceremony in downtown Boise.

The Idaho Office for Refugees says the ceremony on Saturday will coincide with events to mark World Refugee Day. The 31 new citizens are from Afghanistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iran, Kazakhstan, Poland, Somalia, Sudan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Laos.

More than 800 refugees were relocated to Idaho last year.

Nigmatilla Nazaraliyev, who fled left Uzbekistan because of government persecution and now lives in Idaho, says he is thankful for the opportunity to become a new American citizen. Nazaraliyev works for a user interface systems manufacturer in Meridian and wants to own a food business.

He will be among the food vendors at the World Refugee Day event.
