She's been sick with grief.
She said now that police have told her they won't be charging anyone in connection with the death, her sadness has deepened.
"I'm so emotional, I'm losing sleep," Adam said weakly, her voice trailing off.
"My body hurts, my head . . I'm so depressed."
Abdirahim was the city's 23rd homicide. Police discovered the unconscious 20-yearold Somali-Canadian on the boulevard at 149th Avenue and 70th Street near Londonderry Mall on May 19.
He died two days later in hospital.
Police have spoken with a man involved in the incident, as well as several other witnesses.
Adam said police told her Thursday that no charges would be laid as the killing was selfdefence.
"I'm not happy with that," she said. "I want to see the guy caught."
Police would not comment about charges relating to Abdirahim's death.
"With any investigation, we endeavour to keep family informed of the progress of the file. This has been the case with Farida Adam, mother of Yusuf," said Staff Sgt. Dave Spiers of the homicide unit.
"The investigation is being finalized and, as with all homicide investigations, we will consult with the Crown."
