Eight Kenya army officers and a civilian were on Thursday evening injured after the lorry the soldiers were travelling in ran over a land mine in Mandera.
The incident occurred about one kilometer from the Kenya -Somali border as the officers were patrolling the area.
Speaking to Kenya Broadcasting Coropration-KBC- on phone, area District Commissioner Benson Leparnorijo said the officers have been flown to the armed forces memorial hospital in Nairobi for further treatment adding that all of them are in stable condition.
The DC said the explosive is suspected to have been planted by the Somalia militia group Al-shabaab but added that investigations to establish who was behind the attack were underway.
He said security at the border has been beefed up assuring area residents that security agents are on high to avert any attacks.
