According to officials of the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia (TFG) the scholarship program is part of an initiative to address the education crisis in Somalia.
“The scholarship program will help poor and needy Somali students to attend classes and advance their career to help in the development of their country in future” said Somalia’s Minister for education Dr, Abdinur Shiekh Mohamed
Students who will pass in the test will have an opportunity to get payment of college and university fees from nations friendly to Somalia as well as the Somali business community.
The minister said during opening function ahead of the test that Somali parents have to struggle in educating their children, since it is the only way of the woods.
“This will give an opportunity to our students to join colleges and universities. We hail parents who have struggled in educating their children despite many obstacles”
The minister added the process of acquiring the scholarship will be fair to every Somali student who has the opportunity to attend the test.
“The standard test will be the only way for the students to get scholarship and join universities. The procedure will be fair and those who will pass the test will obviously get the chances available” he said
The minister hailed friendly nations to Somalia including Turkey, China, Malaysia, Sudan and Yemen for allowing helping Somali students achieve their career through sponsorships.
The function was organized by the Somali embassy in Nairobi headed by Ambassador Mohamed Ali. Somalia’s celebrated musician, Sado Ali Warsame also attended the function that was graced by the United Nations representative to Somalia Augustine Mahiga.
Ambassador Mohamed Ali has asked Somali students to make efforts and extra hard work to get the necessary education so that they can help their country in the future.
The UN representative to Somali Augustine Mahiga hailed the Somali community for their insatiable desire to get educated and learned.
“When I was a student we used to be classmates with Somalis, what I have seen is that they used to be leading the classes in terms of tests” said Mahiga
