Edmonton - In the wake of a New Years day shooting and murder, Acting Police Chief Dave Koral has found himself overseeing the investigation and trying to smooth things over with the city's Somali community. The trouble started when Detective Bill Clark told media he was frustrated by the lack of cooperation from potential witnesses in that community who were at the restaurant when the homicide occurred
Acting Chief Koral makes it clear Clark is not speaking on behalf of the police service. "Detective Clark spoke out of his frustration, but there are many, many other people who are working with the community. So, he's speaking from his own personal perspective."
Koral adds meetings have been held with some members of the Somali community who were insulted by Clark's remarks.
The murder victim, Mohamed Mahamoud Jama, 23, is of Somali decent.
