The trouble-ridden Calamus private school in the Østerbro will be likely be closing its doors after a damning report from the National School Board accusing it of gross sex discrimination, academic failure and other violations, reports avisen.dk.

According to the 200-page report, the main problem at Calamus, which has 120 pupils, all with a Muslim/Somali background, concerns equal rights. Pupils are divided by gender, and they generally refuse to work with the opposite sex.

In addition, the report found that neither the Danish nor English level of the schools instructors was adequate.

There have also reportedly been several instances of staged teaching when representatives of the school board have visited the school. One pupil, for instance, was said to have received his first and only special needs education class because the school board was present.

The school’s management, according to avisen.dk, said it made the decision to close based on the findings of the report.
