Qatar Centre for Voluntary Activities (QCVA) has delivered the first batch of the used goods collected as aid to the Somali embassy in Doha. The relief materials have been collected under a campaign launched by QCVA to alleviate the sufferings of the famine-affected in Somalia.
Yousef al-Kazim, secretary general of QCVA, said the first batch comprised four tonnes of goods and the campaign would continue for more than six months.
He added that 7,700 volunteers of QCVA are taking part in the campaign. QCVA is also working in co-ordination with the Somali embassy in Doha and the Doha office of Munazzamat al-Da’wa al-Islamiia , an international non-governmental religious organisation based in Sudan, which will deliver the materials to the people in Somalia. He said the goods collected included electricity generators, clothes, shoes and tents.
He expressed his happiness at the great support received from Qatari and expatriate families in response to the campaign. “A time schedule has been arranged to deliver the second batch after Eid. However, QCVA does not accept donation of drugs and food because other organisations in Qatar, such as RAF and Qatari Red Crescent, are collecting these.”
On the other hand, Mukhtar Ali Yousef, Counselor of political affairs and economy at the Somali embassy has expressed his gratitude to QCVA and Qatar for the immense support they have been offering to the people of his country.
Al-Jili Mustfa, public relations and information officer at Munazzamat al-Da’wa al-Islamiia, also expressed his thanks to Qatar for all its efforts to end the distress of the people of Somalia.
