Little Binti Ibrahim Sidaw was found with her jersey wrapped tightly around her neck tied to a washing line.
Now her Blikkiesdorp family are crying murder while the cops are calling it a suicide.
Binti had just finished breakfast with her mom and brother when she went outside to get water on Friday morning.
Her mom Amina Ahmed Ali got worried when the girl didn’t return after 10 minutes.
“I asked my three-year-old son to go look for her because she was taking too long,” she explains.
Seconds later her son screamed for Amina to come and she found her unconscious daughter.
“The jersey was around her neck and tied to a rope used as a washing line,” says the sobbing mom.
“I didn’t hear her scream for me... maybe I could have helped.”
Binti was rushed to hospital where she later died.
When the Daily Voice arrived at the scene, Amina received a call from her husband Ibrahim Sidaw Osman telling her Binti had passed away.
Ibrahim says the cops have got it wrong.
“This is not suicide. A 10-year-old girl can’t think about committing suicide,” he insists.
The grieving Somali family suspect the girl may have been targeted after someone tried to rob her earlier.
“Thursday night I sent my daughter to the shop and she met up with a boy who tried to rob her, and then threatened to kill her,” says Amina.
“I went to check on her and saw the boy standing with her and he told me he just wanted the money I gave to Binti.”
But police spokesman Captain FC Van Wyk says: “At the moment we do not suspect foul play, however, we will investigate all possibilities to determine the cause of death.”
