Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - The Somali Government has called on the United Nations and other International None Governmental Organizations working in Somalia but based in neighboring Kenya to relocate to Mogadishu within 90 days in order to carry out their operations in the country.In a communique issued by the Somali Prime Minister's Office, the government said that there was a wind of change in Somalia after twenty years of bloodshed and mayhem and which required broad based partnership to consolidate the progress already made and do more to strengthen on going efforts to bring back security, reorganizing the chaotic Somali economy, good governance, reconciliation and making essential services available to the Somali People.
The government said that it was necessary for the institutions of the Somali Government to make sure that aid reaches its citizens by making the decision that all Aid Agencies working in Somalia to relocate to the Somali capital,Mogadishu, within 90 days, with the view that needy Somali people receive aid in a proper manner.
The Government statement went on to say that the TFG was sure that the continued presence in Nairobi of UN agencies whose mandate is to work in Somalia was not in the interest of the Somali people. Moreover, the government said that the proposed relocation to Mogadishu of UN agencies will do more to change the general situation of the country in terms of security, employment creation, improving the economy and all other important sectors of the Society.
The Prime Minister said that it was high time to put into action the desire and promises by the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Kii-Moon, and UN special representative to Somalia, ambassador Augustine Mahiga, for UN Aid Agencies to move and work in Somalia. The Somali government,also, said it was requesting the United Nations to give the matter the attention it needed so that they move to Mogadishu within the 90 day period.
Finally, the Somali government thanked all people from across the social spectrum who gave constant support to the Government including the Somali Traditional elders, women groups,the youth and all Somali citizens who showed their unwavering moral support to the government.
