Alshabab Sentences Pair to Amputation and Flogging in Baletweyne

Monday, 4 April 211(HOL) The Alshabab administration in  Baletweyne town have sentenced two young men, who were accused of theft, to amputation and flogging respectively in Beletweyne, the capital of Hiiraan Region, executing both sentences immediately.

An Alshabab court in Beletweyne has ordered the amputation of the right hand of one the accused men and the whipping of the other after hearing their case.

Some of the court officials whom HOL asked why the two young men were given different punishments since they had both been accused of the same crime said that the young man who had his right hand amputated had committed theft of a large amount of money whose punishment was equal to amputation of the right hand and the other only deserved to be flogged since he stole a little money.

This is not the first time the Beletwyne District Court carried out the same kind of sentences on young men who have been accused of theft. In a similar case, the court sentenced two young men who committed the same crime to the same kind of punishment last year
