Johannesburg - Two Somali nationals were arrested in Mayfair for allegedly dealing in drugs, Johannesburg police said on Thursday.

Police were on crime prevention duties at 22:00 on Wednesday when they searched a stationary Toyota Corolla with two occupants, said Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele.

"Police searched the vehicle and found two boxes in the boot full of drugs known as mirra."

The plant, also known as khat, is found mainly in Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea and Yemen. Users chew the leaves to get high.

The mirra was in small bundles, being sold for R30 each. Police also seized R4 200 in cash.

The men, aged 25 and 33, would appear in court soon for possession of and dealing in drugs.
