A documentary about Shelbyville and its Somali immigrants will be screened for community leaders in Shelbyville next Sunday.

According to the Shelbyville Times-Gazette, tentative plans are to have a public screening in October.

The documentary, Welcome to Shelbyville, will be screened at the Brookings Institution in Washington Sept. 15 and is to air on Public Broadcasting Service stations nationwide next spring as part of the series "Independent Lens."

The documentary was produced by San Francisco-based Active Voice.

A number of Somali refugees, brought to the U.S. by the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, moved to Bedford County for jobs in poultry processing.
