A. As a trustee, I will advocate for:
ü Improve quality learning and academic achievement of students in under-performing schools
ü Ensure the schools in our neighborhood meet the provincials standards by providing more resources and professional development support for teachers
ü Advocate and support special needs students and their families.
ü Online learning and multimedia tools for students and teachers
B. Encouraging Parental Involvement/Addressing Parental concerns:
Research has shown that there is a direct co-relation between students’ academic performance and parental involvement in school affairs.
ü Work with school councils and ensure they have a say in board decisions on important issues
ü Consult with parents and community members on school closures and fight to keeps schools open
ü Parents with special needs students: Advocate for additional resources and support
ü Parental council: An active and empowered school council is essential for effective school management and student success. It is my commitment to work, listen and consult with school council
ü Fundraising activities at school: Ensure that students do not miss school activities because they could not afford to pay participation fees.
C. Community-Schools Collaboration:
ü Enhance quality education through effective community-school-collaboration model
ü Make schools community hubs where services and programs are offered and where community cohesion and engagement in school affairs is encouraged and strengthened
ü Encourage students’ engagement in community affairs
ü Encourage a holistic learning-teaching environment that engages all educating entities, home, school, businesses, etc
ü Advocate for academic programming that does not leave any student behind
ü Improve the quality of French immersion program through additional teachers and other resources
ü Consult with parents and daycare service providers to assess the impact of ELP on daycare service providers
