POLICE were last night probing the deaths of two women in a suspected suicide pact involving toxic chemicals.

Their bodies were found in a fume-filled second floor flat where the windows had been taped shut.

Firemen in chemical suits, and wearing breathing apparatus, were called to the scene by police.

Neighbours feared the two young women, one thought to be from Somalia, had tried to copy internet suicide blind date strangers Steve Lumb, 35, and 34-year-old Joanne Lee, who gassed themselves last week in a car in Braintree, Essex with hydrogen sulphide gas after meeting through a suicide internet chat room.

Yesterday’s deaths came in a block of flats in Putney, south west London. Neighbour Christina Barrett said she saw a fire crew “hosed down” and added: “There was a smell in the air that caught the back of your throat."
