The whereabouts of radio Journalist Abdul Karim Mohamed Hersi is unknown since he was snatched from his station by the Alqaeda-linked Somali militants Al-Shabaab on Saturday, colleagues and relatives confirmed here on Monday.

The detained journalist is one of the most active reporters of the Mogadishu-based radio Holy Quran according to a news editor at the station who demanded anonymity for security reasons.

“They took him from the station on Saturday as he was about to broadcast the news hour, when we asked why they were taking him, the militants told us that the journalist was guilty and will be taken to court,” the editor told APA.

Some relatives who were reached for comment by APA said that they will establish contacts with Alshabab to secure the release of the detained radio journalist.

Last week, the rebel group deported radio Somaliweyn reporter, Mohamed Salad Abdulle from the southern Jubba regions saying that his news coverage was jeopardizing security in the region.

The militants also silenced Radio Markabley in the city of Bardhere south western Somalia.
