China welcomes Qatar to play as a mediator between Djibouti and Eritrea to settle a border dispute according to a recent agreement, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Friday.

China always supports the settlement of disputes between nations through talks, and welcomes the signing of the mediation agreement among the three countries, said spokesman Qin Gang.

Eritrean President Isaias Afewerki and Djibouti's President Ismail Omar Guelleh have signed the mediation agreement, Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Hamad bin Al Thani said on Monday.

China appreciates Qatar's mediation efforts and expects an early solution to the problem, Qin said.
