“One of them arrived in the country on Sunday and the other three on Tuesday, and one of them died on arrival at hospital,” Health spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said.
He said that when they arrived at Ntabankulu they were suffering from diarrhoea and dehydration.
They were also vomiting and complained of severe headaches.
“One died on arrival at the hospital and the others were put into isolation as a precautionary measure against the possible spread of disease,” Kupelo explained.
He said that although tests were being run, the foreign nationals were suspected of either having meningitis, or that they could have had food poisoning.
“This morning they were stable but very weak,” he said.
The Health Department had also undertaken to track down those the four had been in contact with to safeguard against the possible spread of an infection. — By NTANDO MAKHUBU, Health Reporter, [email protected]
