Habitat for Humanity Tucson and the home's sponsors Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, celebrated the completion of the Abdi Abdullahi Family's Habitat home.
"The best way to have a home in the United States is through Habitat," said Abdullahi Abdi. "We are very excited. The kids are always asking, ‘when are we going to move?'"
Abdi, his wife Salama Abdullahi, and their two children, Abdukadir, 9, and Alikaf, 7, are refugees resettled in the United States in March 2004. Since then, they've had two more children, born here. They are Abdiaziz, 4, and Mumina, 2.
The couple completed 400 hours of "sweat equity" working on their home, their neighbors' homes and attending mandatory homeowner education classes.
The family will repay a no-interest mortgage, The money goes into a revolving fund to help Habitat build more houses.
The family's new home is in Habitat's Corazon Del Pueblo development.
The home dedication marked the completion of Habitat Tucson's fourth Thrivent-sponsored home.
