Nairobi 6, April, 2010 (HOL) - The government of Uganda has vowed not to withdraw their troops in volatile Somalia until the Somalia militant groups are defeated.
Uganda People Defence Force (UPDF) Brigadier Charles Angina said that its troops will remain in Somalia until the Al-Shabaab and other allied insurgent groups have been overthrown and restore peace to Somalia.
Angina was speaking at a fundraiser for the Africa Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in Kampala where $20 million dollars was raised.
The internationally backed Transitional Federal Government of Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has enjoyed support from mainly Burundi and Uganda which has more than 5000 troops in the bullet riddled country.
Somalia has been without a functional government since 1991 after Mogadishu warlords toppled Siad Barre’s government.
