Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - In a press conference held in Mogadishu today, Somalia’s Interior Minister Mr. Abdulkadir Ali Omar told reporters that the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) will immediately restore security to the country.

The Minister said that the TFG is in the process of finalizing plans to bring back law and order and that these plans will soon be implemented.

The Minister called on groups opposed the TFG to accept to participate in reconciliation talks and that the door for negotiation is still open. He added that the TFG has proposed in the past to talk to groups opposed to it and that the door still open for reconciliation.

The Minister was asked about the bombing of areas near Baraawe in lower Shabeele by US fighter jets where senior officers of Al-Shabaab were killed. In response to the question, the Minister avoided to give an answer except to say the TFG is collecting intelligence on bombing to delineate fact from fiction.

The Minister also talked about droughts that are affecting several regions in the country including Galgaduud, Hiiraan, and Bakool. He said that the droughts are negatively impacting the lives of the people in those regions.

The Minister called on the world community to come to the aid of the people who live in the regions affected by the droughts. He added that the TFG will do all it can to help the people affected by the droughts.
