Islamabad—Federal Minister for Commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim said that government are keen to establishe bilateral trade links with brother countries like Somalia.While talking to Minister of Trade and Tourism of Somalia, Hussein Elabe Fahiya, who called on him here Amin Fahim expressed the hope that trade balance could be increased handsomely by addressing potential areas of trade between the two countries. Minister for Commerce said that business delegation from Somalia may be invited for the forthcoming Expo Pakistan 2009 in Karachi.
Pakistan can also provide useful help in construction sector of Somalia and Somalia could import rice and pharmaceutical while Pakistan could import gums and leather from there.
Hussein Elabe Fahiya said that somalia wants warm trade relations with Pakistan, and for this, they need its support. He further said that they have common ideology for fighting extremists in both the countries.
He showed concerned over the existing trade volume between the two countries which is about 40 million US $.
He also appreciated the efforts of Makhdoom Amin Fahim for taking opportunity to initiate trade talks between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Pak-Turk Joint Ministerial Commission will meet here on Wednesday to discuss and finalise ways and means for promoting bilateral trade for the benefit of two countries.
It was decided in a meeting of new Turkish ambassador to Pakistan Mustafa Babur Hizlar and Federal Minister for Commerce, Makhdoom Amin Fahim here Tuesday.
They discussed and finalised the agenda for the Pak-Turk Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC). Among others, the meeting was attended by Secretary Commerce, Suleman Ghani and officers of the ministry.
Amin Fahim showed interest in exchange of bilateral trade delegations, saying that personal contacts between the businessmen of the two countries were a must for establishing better trade links. Both dignitaries also discussed several other trade related issues including facilitation for traders in transportation between the two countries.—APP
