MOGADISHU (HOL) - Reports we have received from town of Tiyeglow in Bakool region say that the two mains Islamist groups in Somalia, al-Shabaab and Hisbul Islam, are in preparation for what could be a military confrontation in the town of Tiyeglow in Bakool region. The dispute started after Hisbul Islam attempted to establish an administration for the town which was opposed by senior al-Shabaab officers in the town.
Traditional elders in the town tried to mediate the two sides but failed. Armed men from the two groups are now facing each other in one part of the town.
Some of the residents of the town have fled their homes to surrounding villages for fear that they may be caught in the middle should a fighting begin between the two sides.
The crisis in Tiyeglow come at a time when on October 1 the two sides fought for control of the port city of Kismayo. Al-Shabaab was able to defeat Hisbul Islam in that fight.
HOL is following the situation closely and will update its readers as soon as additional information becomes available.
