The Ambassador said that while he was visiting Mogadishu he had meetings with senior official of the transitional federal government including the interim President and his Prime Minister and that they discussed the latest developments in the country.

When asked about the recent seizure of the strategic city of Jowhar by insurgent forces from the transitional government forces, the Ambassador said that the seizure was a politically calculated act since the President
of the transitional government comes from that city.

“I can confirm it for you that the transitional government forces will retake the city from insurgents in the next couple of days” said the AU Ambassador for Somalia.

When asked if the transitional government forces control the whole of Mogadishu, the Ambassador responded that the transitional government has control of the whole city although there are hit and run attacks at government forces by insurgents.
