Local reporters from the town reported that the police commander of Puntland said in a press conference that the explosion was a grenade that went off by accident from the deceased man. However, other reports suggest that the grenade was thrown by unknown person who managed to escape from the scene. Others say that the restaurant belongs to an Ethiopian man and there is a possibility that members of Islamist groups were behind the attack.
Sources close to Puntland police told somalilandpress that one suspect was arrested who is also turned to be an Ethiopian after the police took him to the police station.
Such explosions are becoming common in the Somalia’s region of Puntland since the last few months. A couple of weeks ago, the coastal city of Bosaso witnessed series of explosions where more than 20 people killed and others wounded. It is not clear who is behind the attacks but the police say they are investigating the incidents.
